Cupcakes

I realised the other picture doesn't show clearly the cupcakes. Here it is again up close.

The Flower Business

Oh hey I realised I didn't mention about Chris' idea to buy flowers for our anniversary and for us to do an arrangement together. He figured it wouldn't make sense to pay someone else to make it so he said I could teach him and we could do it together.

So I took the opportunity to send a mass text message asking if anyone was interested in buying cheap arrangements from me as part of my practice for I know that I'd end up with extra flowers from our floral purchase.

So our friend Jonathan reserved one for his newly-married wife Karen. Unfortunately I bought the wrong roses from the wrong distributor and ended up with stale roses which dried up fast and ended up blooming at super sonic speed. It didn't help at all and was very demoralising when we did our arrangement 1 day later.

The white roses were yellowing and some were dead and the pink roses were too bloomed and some were rotten. I was very devastated. My only saving grace was the perfectly gorgeous pink hydrangea we bought from the other supplier which was more reliable. Those were from Holland and were fresh! It is still in my house right now... lasting for 1 week already.

Here are some pictures of the arrangements.

Our First Anniversary

We celebrated our first anniversary on 14 July. It was simple and nice.
The day wasn't too good though... it was wet. So that foiled our plans to suntan in the morning at Sentosa. But we still went there in the afternoon and had lunch at a restaurant on the beach called Coastes.

I gave him a box of cupcakes and he gave me a gorgeous Starck watch from Fossil. I know what you're gonna say... wait till who gets the last laugh!

We had dinner at Friends Food & Wine and it was a great choice indeed. The place was not bad but of course not romantic (it's a restaurant, not a garden restaurant) and the food was pretty good and definite value for money. We even ordered a bowl of mushroom soup with truffle oil just to sample since it was highly recommended on hungrygowhere.

We spent about $50 for 2 persons and we had a very filling 3 course dinner of French cuisine. I had fish and he had beef tenderloin and my starter was a mushroom salad thing and his (which I should've chosen) was a duck salad which was really very good.

Dessert was apple with sour cherry tart with vanilla ice cream. Nice ending to a dinner. Pity I didn't get to try their chicken which was also highly recommended. Another time though!

See the pix and will update with more.

Post-Event Floral Job

Oh yeah I realised I didn't update on the adventure with Boenga. Well, it was a good experience. I learned a lot... mainly built up my confidence in doing arrangements. I did about 5-6 centerpieces for the wedding dinner in a span of about 7 hours. It was no easy feat considering it was my first time.

Too bad I didn't photograph them. There wasn't time. I didn't have a camera. Plus I don't know if I am allowed to. Maybe I'll try the next time.

The boss says he will call me again for sure. I haven't heard from him yet about my pay for that day. But I know he won't con me. His business is so big, he doesn't need to con me.

We'll wait and see.

An update on Life so far

I've been busy. Very busy.
Working on the surprise for Chris for our 1st Anniversary. It'll be a while before I can finish.

I've also been cooking quite a bit... for our home dinner or lunch. Mostly the dinners.

I've tried cooking Lemon Pepper chicken breast (western styled) and Chris gave it 9.5/10 which was quite a feat considering it was my first attempt.

Then I've also cooked white vegetable soup which we ate for 2 days and he gave it 8/10. That was my second time cooking it.

And then there was the pan-fried fish with bell peppers and onion. I had Lee Kum Kee sauce so it tasted great obviously. 8/10.

Tonight I will attempt an experimental cooking based on an online recipe I will modify from. It's going to be Stir-fried Soy-beans Chicken with Bell Peppers and Onions. No Lee Kum Kee for this one. Making my own sauce. Will need to consult the sifu for the soybean paste mix. Whether to add sugar or not.

The sifu is my mom obviously.

I was supposed to cook the chicken yesterday but when I wanted to cook it at 5pm, I realised I forgot to defrost the chicken. Haha.

Opportunity Awaits...

I just came back from an interview with acclaimed floral design company Boenga. The guy who runs the place is very talented and his works are massive, spectacular and unbelievable. I've never seen such elaborate designs of wedding and event decor and it just amazes me that there are people in this country who can pay over $100,000 for floral decoration. These people are just obscenely wealthy.

I hope I will be able to do this well. He's willing to try me out and I'll get my first hand experience doing his floral works for a wedding tomorrow. I just hope I do well and impress him. It's truly a great opportunity to be able to work with him.
